Instructions - Tomato Vegetable Beef
You will need
2.5 liters (10 cups) of water
1 can – 796 ml (28 oz.) diced tomatoes
450 gr. (1 lb.) browned ground beef
Salt and pepper to taste
In a large saucepan, heat water to boiling. Add browned beef, canned tomatoes and all of the soup mix. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1 hour or until dried grains are tender. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Season to taste. Variations
This soup freezes very well and can be kept in the freezer for up to six months. Instead of hamburger, use stew meat. Brown it as you would hamburger then proceed with recipe.
This soup can also be made into a stew by adding fresh stew meat or leftover steak or roast. Potatoes, carrot, celery, onion and a couple of cloves of fresh garlic can transform yesterdays leftovers into a completely new meal.
Some interesting additions that have come our way are: BBQ sauce, HP sauce, Hot sauce, Chili powder, jalapeno peppers.
